MECA Challenges are a one-day student innovation competitions which introduce local high school students to design thinking and entrepreneurial mentors.

MECA Methods is “disruptive” professional development for educators, equipping them with a design thinking experience and methodology to utilize in their classrooms. Our work with educators also includes Innovative Schools Visits and screenings of the film Most Likely to Succeed.

Back2KC is a year-round initiation highlighted by an annual two-day experience that invites successful tech, creative and business-minded former Kansas Citians to reconnect with their hometown. In 2018, 26 of these “Champions” returned.

The Top VC-Backed Companies Celebration is an invite-only reception to celebrate and recognize the collective accomplishments of Kansas City’s growth-stage, venture capital-backed companies highlighted in an annual report published in Startland News. In 2019, 61 KC companies made the list and reported $908M of capital raised.

Innovation Exchange is a monthly event series hosted by Startland News featuring a robust discussion about a topic or trend affecting innovation and entrepreneurship in Kansas City. 2019 Innovation Exchanges have averaged over 100 attendees and covered topics including investing in women, innovation hubs and startup burnout.

Startup Crawl KC is a one-night tour of Kansas City’s startup community through multiple locations in the Crossroads Arts District. In 2019, Startup Crawl KC welcomed over 700 crawlers and 35 startups.

The Startups to Watch Celebration is an annual event at the end of January celebrating some of Kansas City’s fastest-growing startups anticipated to have banner years. Over 275 people attended 2019’s celebration at H&R Block’s Copaken Stage.
